Article type: Press Release

Washington D.C. – March 27, 2009 – The Pepsi Bottling Group (PBG) and Rebuilding Together today announced that they are teaming up for a volunteer effort that will assist low-income communities in ten cities across the country. As part of this nationwide initiative, many PBG employees and their families will be spending their weekends repairing homes and community centers in Minneapolis, MN; Miami, FL; Philadelphia, PA; Nashville, TN; Fairmont, WV; Harrisburg, PA; Pittsburgh, PA; Portland, OR; Stockton, CA; and Tulsa, OK.

"At PBG, our employees set the community outreach agenda. They identify local causes that mean something to them and to their families," said Paula Davis, Vice President, Corporate Communications for The Pepsi Bottling Group.

"Our employees want to help organizations that make a difference. It is a powerful day for all of us when we can leave our community improved after a day of work with Rebuilding Together. We feel grateful to be able to help out our neighbors."

The volunteer efforts will take place in places like the Logan Community Development Corporation in Philadelphia, PA, where PBG employees will be building a technology center with access to computers and the internet that will be available to the community’s low-income residents. The technology center will be named after Carlton Simmons, a former PBG employee and Logan resident who was shot and killed one year ago.

“The Pepsi Bottling Group demonstrates an extraordinary passion and commitment each time their employees bring their “unquenchable spirit” campaign to life by working on Rebuilding Together projects in PBG communities. They care about the neighborhoods in which they work and are willing to roll up their sleeves and do something to make a real difference” said Gary Officer, President and CEO of Rebuilding Together.

These ten projects represent a continued commitment by PBG to Rebuilding Together and the nation’s low-income communities. Projects began in February and will culminate in early May.

In 2008, PBG employees worked in five cities to repair and improve community centers. PBG also participated in the signature Kickoff to Rebuild event at Super Bowl XLIII in Tampa, FL. To see photos from the 2008 projects or to find out more about Rebuilding Together visit www.RebuildingTogether.org.
