Rebuilding Together AmeriCorps' MLK Week of Service 2019
Rebuilding Together’s MLK Week of Service is a national program that that brings together Rebuilding Together’s AmeriCorps members serving across the country to transform the lives of neighbors in need and make an impact in communities. The program coincides with the Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service held on Monday, January 21, 2019. The MLK Week of Service has become a hallmark of Rebuilding Together’s AmeriCorps programs, and was nationally recognized by the Corporation for National and Community Service with the 2013 Service Impact Award.
This year's project will be hosted by Rebuilding Together New Orleans. Rebuilding Together AmeriCorps members, representing 29 communities and 17 different states, will complete a variety of repairs and modifications to improve the safety and health of homes for residents in need in New Orleans, including two veterans. Members will arrive on January 20, 2019, for a multi-home, multi-day rebuild project, during which they will install a wheelchair ramp for a veteran with disabilities, repair and replace windows and mitigate and remove fall hazards among various other repairs. Our mission is to bring the community together to celebrate the legacy of Dr. King by serving our neighbors in need and revitalizing the community.
