Rebuilding Together Announces President and CEO Leadership Transition

Outgoing President and CEO Caroline Blakely helped transform the organization during 8 years of executive leadership

Washington, D.C., March 1, 2024Rebuilding Together, the leading national nonprofit organization providing critical home repairs and revitalizing our communities, announced today the retirement of President and CEO Caroline Blakely. During her eight years guiding Rebuilding Together, Blakely advanced the organization, expanding its reach to serve more low-income homeowners and communities across the country. The organization’s Chief Strategy Officer, Maureen Carlson, has been named interim president and CEO until a permanent replacement is named.

For nearly a decade, Blakely was responsible for guiding the strategic direction of Rebuilding Together. Under her leadership, Rebuilding Together has achieved remarkable growth and success, solidifying its position as a thought leader in housing. Her strategic vision and passion for innovation led to affiliate growth and capacity and operational improvements across the Rebuilding Together network. 

“It’s been an honor to lead and serve alongside so many talented individuals throughout the Rebuilding Together network and affordable housing sector, focused on improving the lives of our neighbors and communities in need,” said Caroline Blakely, retired president and CEO, Rebuilding Together. “I am incredibly proud of what we have achieved together and look forward to the organization's continued success in the future.”

The board of directors appointed Maureen Carlson, Rebuilding Together’s chief strategy officer, as interim president and CEO to ensure a smooth transition. “Over the past 18 months, I have had the pleasure to work closely with Caroline as she prepared for her retirement,” said Carlson. “It is a privilege to serve the organization in this capacity during the transition and I look forward to collaborating with our staff, affiliates and partners to continue building on our successes.”

The board of directors will work with an executive search firm to find Rebuilding Together’s next president and CEO.
