A blessing for a Chicago neighbor

Owning a home was a long-time dream for Ms. Thomas. Her dream became reality, when she purchased her Chicago home 17 years ago. Since then, she and her family have created many fond memories in her home. While Ms. Thomas desired to age in place, her home needed repairs she simply couldn’t afford.

"I've always wanted to have my own home and be comfortable and safe,” said Ms. Thomas. “I don't have a lot of money to keep it up like I would like to. This would be a blessing to me. With the doors and windows replaced, it would be safer and warmer.”

With the financial support of Fortune Brands Innovations, volunteers were able to make essential repairs to help make Ms. Thomas’ home safer and healthier. Volunteers worked together to install grab bars and repair railings that now allow her to navigate her home more safely. They also painted and patched walls in rooms throughout her home, replaced the carpet and removed hazardous debris from her backyard. 

Every neighbor deserves a safe and healthy place to call home. With these repairs, Ms. Thomas can safely age in place in the home she loves.
