Improving the Lives of Veterans and their Families with Lockheed Martin
A safe home is more than just shelter, it’s a solid foundation for stability, education and health. Yet, too many of our neighbors live in unsafe conditions, in homes with leaky roofs, broken plumbing and HVAC systems, trip hazards and other conditions placing them at risk. They cannot make essential repairs on their own or afford home improvement services, including a large number of our nation’s veterans.
Around 1.2 million veterans have incomes below poverty level, putting important home repairs out of reach. That’s why we provide no-cost repairs and accessibility modifications through our Veterans at Home program. We are amplifying the efforts of public programs, bridging the gap in available services for our neighbors in need, so that veterans can live in a safe, healthy home.
In 2022, we launched a national partnership with Lockheed Martin to provide home repairs and modifications to more veterans in need. Together, we have made repairs to over 70 veteran homes and engaged more than 800 Lockheed Martin volunteers. Our work goes beyond making homes safer and healthier. Together, we’re improving non-profit facilities and community centers that serve veterans, too.
For example, in Maryland, Lockheed Martin and Rebuilding Together made safety upgrades to an American Legion Post and refreshed it with new paint. In Massachusetts, we made ceiling and flooring repairs to a residential facility for veterans in need. And, in Texas, we improved a resource center for veterans and their families that offers peer support and assistance to address complex challenges like homelessness and unemployment. With these much-needed improvements, the organizations operating these facilities can provide safer, more inviting spaces, so they can focus on their missions.
Over the past 15 years, our network of affiliates across the country has completed more than 13,000 projects for veterans and their families. Thanks to Veterans at Home and supporters like Lockheed Martin, we are improving safety and accessibility, increasing independence and facilitating aging in place for those who have served our nation. Because everyone deserves a safe, secure place to call home.
