A Miracle for a Mother in El Cajon
“I don’t care how ill you are, or what happens. If you have breath in you, you deserve a family,” said Penny.
Penny is an El Cajon resident who has a lot of love to give. Over the years, she has adopted 42 children with disabilities and is currently raising 18 of those children in her home. She has created a space filled with love and support, which is evident on the faces of her smiling children. But having to care for so many people can be expensive, making affording the cost of much-needed home repairs difficult.
In January, volunteers from Rebuilding Together San Diego were able to provide essential repairs and accessibility modifications to Penny’s home. Among the list of repairs, volunteers replaced doors, installed new kick plates and corner guards for the wheelchair users of the home. Also included was interior painting, window tinting, storage shelving and organizing, debris removal, tree removal, landscape trimming and clean up, gate repair, new patio furniture and picnic tables and two new refrigerators.
We are grateful to be able to help Penny and her family continue to thrive in a safer and healthier space. With the continued support of our partners and volunteers, we look forward to helping many more families, like Penny’s, in our community.
