Statement by Rebuilding Together President & CEO and National Board Chair on Bipartisan Passage of the 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act
Rebuilding Together applauds the bipartisan passage of the 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act, an important step toward addressing America's housing challenges and expanding opportunities for safe and affordable housing in communities across the country. As an organization committed to repairing homes, revitalizing communities and safeguarding affordable homes for millions of Americans, we recognize that the nation's housing challenges demand practical solutions that bring people together across political lines. The strong bipartisan support behind this legislation reflects a shared understanding that housing stability is fundamental to economic opportunity, public health and community resilience.
We commend the lawmakers from both parties who worked collaboratively to advance this measure and demonstrate that meaningful progress is possible when leaders focus on the needs of the people they serve. We also respectfully urge President Donald Trump to sign the 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act into law. While the President has expressed reservations about signing the legislation, we believe this bill represents a constructive and consequential investment in America's housing future. The need for safe, affordable housing transcends politics and families across the country cannot afford further delays in addressing the housing supply and affordability challenges affecting their communities.
Rebuilding Together has seen firsthand the impact that housing insecurity has on older adults, veterans, families with children and individuals with disabilities. We believe this legislation can help advance solutions that strengthen neighborhoods, support local economies and create pathways to stability for millions of Americans. At a time when housing costs continue to strain household budgets nationwide, we encourage the President to consider the broad bipartisan support for this legislation and the positive impact it could have on communities in every state. Signing the 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act into law would demonstrate a commitment to addressing one of the most pressing challenges facing the nation today. Rebuilding Together stands ready to work with federal, state and local leaders of all political perspectives to ensure that every person has the opportunity to live in a safe and affordable home.
