Rebuilding Together Expands Impact with the Launch of Three New Affiliates

Network affiliates in Alabama, South Carolina and Virginia strengthen Rebuilding Together’s efforts to provide safe, affordable housing nationwide

WASHINGTON, October 23, 2024 - Rebuilding Together, the leading national nonprofit organization providing critical home repairs and revitalizing our communities, announced the launch of three new affiliates: Rebuilding Together of South Alabama, Rebuilding Together Spartanburg and Rebuilding Together of Hampton Roads

This expansion underscores Rebuilding Together’s commitment to addressing the urgent need for safe, affordable housing across the country. Adding these affiliates enables Rebuilding Together to serve more of our neighbors in need through critical home repairs, accessibility modifications and community revitalization, all at no cost to them.

“Every neighbor deserves to live in a safe and healthy home,” said Maureen Carlson, president and CEO of Rebuilding Together. “By expanding our network, we are better equipped to address critical housing needs, helping our neighbors remain in their homes, maintain their connection to the community and preserve generational wealth.”

The new affiliates have already made a meaningful impact in their regions:

  • Rebuilding Together of South Alabama, which launched earlier this year, kicked off its work with a project that improved a veteran’s home. The team made essential repairs and accessibility modifications, helping the homeowner live more comfortably and safely.
  • Rebuilding Together Spartanburg addressed housing needs in Spartanburg County, South Carolina, since its founding in 1997 as “Christmas in Action.” Recently rebranded as a Rebuilding Together affiliate, the organization aims to broaden its impact by helping neighbors in need, including older adults and people with disabilities.
  • Rebuilding Together of Hampton Roads held its first volunteer project on October 16, making essential repairs to the home of a long-time resident of Hampton, Virginia. Volunteers helped with many improvements, from repairing siding and gutters to installing new flooring and painting the front porch.

Rebuilding Together works proactively and collaboratively with community leaders, long-term residents, funders and volunteers to foster dialogue and create safe, healthy communities across the country. For every $1 invested in home repairs, there is a projected $2.84 in social value generated through improved health, safety, independence and cost savings.

According to a recent study conducted by Rebuilding Together:

  • 83 percent of respondents agreed their physical or mental health improved, because of the repairs.
  • 80 percent of respondents who felt it was difficult to move around their home before repairs found it easier after the improvements.
  • 86 percent of respondents said they were more likely to age in place at home following repairs.

By partnering with local volunteers, donors and community leaders, these affiliates will ensure that homes are not only habitable, but also safe, healthy and sustainable for the long term.
