Bryon Cornelison, Director, Special Projects
City of New Orleans, Office of the Mayor

Bryon Cornelison has a long history of caring for special populations, starting with 15 years in the mental health and senior care fields in the 1980s and volunteering with Rebuilding Together’s New Orleans affiliate until joining the staff in 1998. Bryon was promoted to Executive Director in 2000 and expanded the affiliate to year-round services with the addition of a dozen AmeriCorps NCCC team members. He also hosted Kick off to Rebuild in 2002 during Super Bowl weekend in New Orleans. He was instrumental in the organization’s first capital purchase of a warehouse in 2003 and led the affiliate through Hurricane Katrina in 2005. Bryon took a sabbatical from Rebuilding Together for the last decade, using the skills he acquired with the organization to learn about and sell paint for both Sherwin Williams and Home Depot and provide expert project management to home renovations in New Orleans’ historic French Quarter and Garden Districts. Bryon, through the numerous contacts that Rebuilding Together provided, now works for the City of New Orleans in the Office of the Mayor, handling Special Projects throughout the city. Bryon rejoined the local Rebuilding Together affiliate in 2019 as a board member to assist with the task of separating this affiliate from a larger preservation organization, which had been the arrangement since 1988.
